A Review of Group Psychotherapy in Psychiatric Inpatients


Abstract
The authors reviewed the group psychotherapy processes of 77 sessions which had been performed from March, 1985 through February, 1986 at the psychiatric unit of the Kyung-Hee university hospital Also, we tried to find the solution to problems.
The results were obtained as follows:
I . The number of patients who attended at the group psychotherapy session was 626 for 77 sessions. So, the average number of patient for each session were 8.1, and third and fourth decades were more than 70% of all patients.
2. In the classification by psychiatric diagnosis, the most common single disorder was paranoid type,
schizophrenia (>30%), and the most common disorder group was affective disorder as 31.8%.
3. The number of attendance at the group psychotherapy for a patient was more than two about 2/3
of all patients.
4. The most common technique used in the group psychotherapy was ¢¥go-around¢¥ and only 13 sessions were discussed about specific topics for short time.
